Will donuts and Vegan Steak Bakes launch at Greggs soon? Current state of sightings, rumours, and leaks * Plant Based Recipes: Garden + Kitchen

Despite not living in the UK, news about the convenience chain called Greggs enters my newsfeeds quite regularly. Drool worthy posts for the most part. Newsfeed appearances started with a vegan sausage roll offered by the chain that omnivores claimed tasted better than the meat version. And now Greggs has a bunch of new products in the works and being released to the masses at their nearly-2000 locations.

There are a few new vegan additions on deck at Greggs locations, most likely to be Steak Bakes and glazed donuts. Greggs has confirmed that these will launch January 2020 and now has a large visual statement with a release date of January 2nd on their Instagram page and video on Twitter.

VegNews and The Independent reported that signage for the vegan donuts were added to Greggs locations, and are anticipated to launch next week.

Vegan Food UK posted on Instagram (below) that Greggs (covered by The Independent yesterday) is set to “launch a vegan steak bake ‘very soon'”

This photo says the Steak Bake will have “savoury flavour Quorn myco-protein pieces and diced onions in gravy, wrapped in crisp puff pastry” and costs £1.55.

Greggs began the hype earlier this month by releasing a video on their Twitter account about adding new vegan options but they didn’t say much.

There have since been leaks Steak Bakes and the donuts mentioned above.

Numerous news outlets, including The Independent, have reached out to Greggs for comment on the leaks, but they are keeping their “cards close to their chests”. Whatever they do release in a few days, we can’t wait to see what they are and hear about how these products taste! And I’m sure that Greggs anticipates a successful launch since their vegan sausage roll blew up their shares (in a good way).

I’m making an early prediction *because vegan* that we might see a return of the steak bake vs cushion meme.
